Cultural Places

Special places are special because of many reasons. there are cultural protocols for most places around. it is polite to follow cultural protocols when traveling on country, this country is special to our people, and the laws and stories are still bring passed on.

I would encourage you to always follow cultural protocols when on country.  

 

Men’s Business

Men’s business places are only for men. It is a place that men have gone to for generations and its would be polite to have only men go there.

 

Woman’s Business

Woman’s Business places are only for Woman. its a place that has been passed on to them from mother to daughter, grandmother to grand daughter, its its polite only woman go there. 

Sacred place

Country is always sacred in some way, but some places have a story and morals that we are to learn from the story and the country. 

there are rules in relation to country as well, like not climbing mountains, talking softly, no running and even no lighting of fires.

Grinding Grooves-Landsbrough

The Grinding Grooves are a special place. our people hvae been going there for generations, its a family place a learning place. Making an axe was a long process, teaching the children storeys and law happened here, all the while making and creating axes, knives, spears and heaps of other tools.

Bora Ring-Glass house Mountains (Durn)

the Glass House mountain is a special place and has special meaning to Kabi Kabi and Jiniburra peoples.

This place is a Ceremonial ground. a Durn or some say Bora Ground. there is only one raised circle here today although there was 2 or more in the past. 

People would come here to perform many different ceremony’s and this one has a special emphases on Woman’s Business

Scar Trees

The scars in trees may not always be natural. They have been used to mark pathways, special places and sacred ground for generations. Warnings or markings, cut into the trees as to guide people safely along pathways and roads.

The trees here not only mark out the pathway to the high country,they mark the camp ground that has been here for generations.

Mt Coolum-Maroochy River-Mt Ninderry

Maroochy, Coolum and Ninderry are all in close proximity, they have been connected since the beginning. Many wonderful stories have been told about these places and the people that the places became. Each family will have a different story, depending on what they want to teach or portray at the time of telling the story’s.

Stories a powerful in teaching method, and have been used by many people to teach the next generations!

Mt Coolum

Mt Coolum has been a big part of Kabi Kabi Culture for generations. Stories have been told about his exploits and climbing this mt to my knowledge is ok but I have hear stories that its polite to not talk or make fire on the top.

Maroochy River

The Maroochy river has been a big part of Kabi Kabi Culture for generations. Stories have been told about her exploits and of course it’s a generational home, hunting and fishing ground. There are also Durn’s on the river bank and many ceremonies have been performed along the river

Mt Ninderry

Mt Ninderry has been a big part of Kabi Kabi Culture for generations. Stories have been told about him and exploits. He was a “head man” kind of “Leader” for the people and once the Mt was made it became a Men’s place.

Its polite that only Men climb this mountain
